“Surprises can happen.” Zenit Tolochko coach talks about Spartakiad volleyball tournament

Head coach of St. Petersburg volleyball “Zenith Andrei Tolochko admitted on that it’s difficult for him to talk about the teams’ prospects in the Spartakiad tournament.

In the first match of the second round of Volleyball Spartakiad among the men’s national teams of the Russian Federation, the St. Petersburg team under the leadership of Tolochko beat the team from the Leningrad region (3:0).

How did you feel about the support from the fans?

– Certainly, we thank our fans. They were with us in Kazan, now they have moved to Moscow. Always supportive, no matter if the team wins or loses. They are still with us and we thank them very much.

– We beat them quickly and easily today, in three sets.

“It always seems so simple and quick. We said to ourselves in the locker room that this match ended quickly, we had to give the best. Therefore, the maximum layout of the players in today’s game gave such a result. I am grateful to them for that, which they heard. And they didn’t give up at any time, even when they were leading very hard.

– What can Saint Petersburg expect at the tournament?

– It’s very difficult for me to say, we had a difficult subgroup in Kazan. Now it’s a little different. You saw that two teams had three wins, the others had one. Everything is ahead. The tournament is not very simple in its format. All kinds of surprises can happen here. It’s hard at this point after the first game to guess what’s going to happen next.

The meeting took place in Moscow. Previously, the 1st round of the competition took place in Novosibirsk and Kazan. Now St. Petersburg takes an intermediate third place (6 points) after 4 games. The 1st and 2nd teams will play in the final, the 3rd and 4th teams will play for third place. The medal presentations are scheduled for August 21.
