Head coach of the Russian national team Yuri Borodavko said that he does not consider the absence of Olympic champion Veronica Stepanova a loss for Russian cross-country skiing in the coming season, noting that the athlete “will soon find real female happiness” in connection with the birth of a child.
At the end of last season, Stepanova won the overall Russian Cup. In August, the 23-year-old announced that she was preparing to become a mother and would therefore miss the 2024/25 season.
– This is not a loss, but an increase – it must be said (laughs). As they say, our ski regiment is coming! You must understand that a woman’s most important goal is procreation. “I am very happy that such a talented young athlete will give birth to a child and find true female happiness,” Soviet Sport quotes Borodavko.
