Imad Ashur: Makuana recovered from injury and held his first full training session in Polesie

Polesie coach admits that the team previously lacked a Congolese winger

Head coach Polesia Imad Ashur reported that the winger Beni Makuana recovered from injury and held his first full training session. At the same time, the coach of the Zhytomyr club joked that Makuana returned from a loan in the Carpathians. Earlier, journalist Igor Burbas stated that the Congolese would move to the Lviv club on loan, but this information was quickly denied in Polesie.

“As you can see, we returned him from his rental in the Carpathians. He has recovered, this is his first full training. Beni was injured during the previous international break during a friendly game. From that moment on, the recovery process took place, quietly, calmly. As always, there were no questions in the training process, which is why the return was quite quick.”

“It’s a shame that Benya’s injuries overlapped each other, but as it is, we can’t predict it. I am very pleased that all previous tests showed that nothing physically or medically hinders him. We will gradually balance the load, gradually increase it, and then how his body will react. We will understand how soon we can count on availability on the field. Whatever one may say, we missed him.”

“Closer to the game we will be able to understand his physical condition after he goes through a period of re-adaptation to group loads. Time will tell, now we can rejoice that he has returned to the general group. Let’s hope it lasts for a long time.”

Let us remind you that Makuana moved to Polesie last summer from Montpellier and had a powerful first round – 20 matches, four goals and three assists. Beni was recognized as the best football player in the UPL based on the results of October 2023. The Congolese international suffered a thigh injury in February which forced him to miss the rest of last season.

In the current campaign, Makuana managed to appear on the field four times (111 minutes, one yellow card), and since mid-September he has not been included in the first team roster – he was officially considered injured.

Polesie ranks fourth in the UPL with 22 points. Imad Ashur’s team has not won the championship since the beginning of October. In the next round, the Zhytomyr team will host Zarya on November 25.
