Shakhtar’s ex-coach Castro may lead Santos

The last place of work of the Portuguese specialist was Saudi Al-Nasr

Ex-coach Shakhtar Luis Castro can lead Santos.

In addition to the candidacy of a Portuguese specialist, the management of Santos is also considering the option of appointing Renato Gaus, who currently heads Gremio.

Luis Castro has been out of work since September, when he was sacked as Al-Nasr head coach. The Portuguese has led the Saudi club since July 2023. Under his leadership, the team, whose main star is the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo, took second place in the last edition of the Saudi Arabian Championship, losing 14 points to the champion Al-Hilal. Al-Nasr lost both finals to him – the King’s Cup (analogous to the country’s national cup) and the Super Cup.

From 2019 to 2021, Luis Castro led Shakhtar Donetsk, becoming the champion of Ukraine with him in the 2019/20 season. Next in the Portuguese’s career were the Qatari Al-Duhail and the Brazilian Botafogo.

Santos is spending this season for the first time in its history in the second Brazilian division. But the legendary club immediately won a return to the elite – with one round left before the end of the championship in the Brazilian Serie B, Santos guaranteed itself the final first place.

Santos will play the final match of the 2024 season on November 24 against Sport Recife.
