Triple Olympic medalist, six-time world swimming champion Yulia Efimova told that she plans to qualify for the World Long Course Championships, which will be held in 2025 in Singapore.
On Thursday, Efimova clocked her second time (30.18 seconds) in the 50m breaststroke semi-final at the Russian Short Course Swimming Championships, taking place in St. Petersburg. The best result was achieved by Ralina Gilyazova (30.05).
— What do you think of the unification of nautical federations within the Russian Water Sports Federation (FVVSR), headed by Dmitry Mazepin?
— We have just met Dmitry Arkadyevich. We just said hello. But after the speech, I need to have a brief interview, so to speak.
– What are we talking about?
— I will speak to Mazepin personally. And I think these changes will play a positive role for swimming and for all aquatic federations. An assistant contacted me, we have already communicated. They want to talk to me. They were interested in how everything worked before in the swimming federation. They try to understand it, to break it down. They don’t understand at all how things work in our country. Therefore, they asked me for something like a consultation or even help in the form of advice. It’s interesting, we’ll watch and discuss.
— You have the chance to go to the 2025 World Cup in Singapore. Is this the goal?
– It’s a big goal. This is a great charge of positive emotions. And I hope it doesn’t happen in such a way that the swimmers are informed a day in advance: “By the way, we qualify for Singapore.” And that everything will be known in advance, and the guys will have the opportunity to prepare well.
—And does this motivate you to pursue your career?
– Let’s see. Until another, stronger motivation appears, I will continue my career,” Efimova told .
In the new edition of the world swimming rules on neutral status, there are no clauses limiting applications of Russians for distances to international starts, there are no restrictions on participation in team events of the program ( in the case of swimming, we are talking about relay races), and there are also no restrictions on compliance with the standard exclusively outside of Russia and Belarus. Previously, Efimova had already obtained neutral status and tried to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
