Double Olympic champion Denis Pankratov called the decision of the international federation World Aquatics to relax the rules for admitting Russian swimmers to competitions in a neutral status a step towards which both sides are heading.
In the new edition of the world swimming rules for neutral status, there are no clauses limiting applications of Russians for distances to international starts, there are no restrictions on participation in team events of the program, and there are also no restrictions on compliance with the standards exclusively outside of Russia and Belarus. On Thursday, the first vice-president of the Russian Swimming Federation, Vladimir Salnikov, told that representatives of the CSKA and Dynamo sports clubs can claim neutral status.
— In general, the easing of sanctions can be seen as a mutual step towards each other. To a certain extent, we have reached out to them. In turn, World Aquatics made concessions. Additionally, we see statements from swimmers on social media, which show how much our guys miss our foreign competitors. Everyone wants to compete,” Pankratov told RT.
From November 21 to 26, the Russian Short Course Swimming Championship takes place in Saint Petersburg. Watch live broadcasts of the competition on and the holding’s TV channels, as well as on the matchtv.ru and sportbox.ru sites.
