Coach of the Russian synchronized swimming team Tatiana Danchenko called the decision of the international federation (World Aquatics) to relax the rules for admitting Russian athletes to international competitions in a neutral status a global trend.
In the new edition of the world swimming rules for neutral status, there are no clauses limiting applications of Russians for distances to international starts, there are no restrictions on participation in team events of the program, and there are also no restrictions on compliance with the standards exclusively outside of Russia and Belarus. On Thursday, the first vice-president of the Russian Swimming Federation, Vladimir Salnikov, told that representatives of the CSKA and Dynamo sports clubs can claim neutral status.
— To be honest, World Aquatics’ concessions were not surprising. But of course we are happy. What can we talk about, we have been sitting here for a long time. Of course, there is still a desire to compete under the Russian flag. Hopefully we’ll get back to it soon. I would not want to compete as some sort of second-class citizen, as happened with our athletes at the Paris Olympics. But I would call the gradual lifting of sanctions against national athletes a global trend. I really hope that the restrictions will gradually continue to be removed, ”quotes RT Danchenko.
