Double Olympic champion Denis Pankratov spoke about the possible participation of Russian athletes in the Short Course World Championships in Budapest in December.
In the new edition of the world swimming rules on neutral status, there are no clauses limiting applications of Russians for distances to international starts, there are no restrictions on participation in team events of the program ( in the case of swimming, we are talking about relay races), and there are also no restrictions on compliance with the standard exclusively outside of Russia and Belarus.
The Russian short course swimming championship, which begins on November 21 in St. Petersburg, may have qualifying status for participation in the December world championships in Budapest.
— The question of Russia’s participation in the Short Course World Championships in Budapest in December remains open. After all, we want a national team or a major representative team to participate in international competitions. But today we only have five people with neutral status. We have unclear selection criteria and number of distances. There are many more questions than answers. Most likely, foreign partners will have to ask themselves whether they really want to see us and in what numbers. We haven’t returned to our old lives yet. You will also need to obtain permits and invitations,” Pankratov told RT.
