Ballon d’Or winner out with knee injury
Midfielder Manchester City and the Spanish national team Rhodri hopes to return to action by June in order to play in his teams’ final matches of the season.
“My plan is to come back this season, maybe around June or July. I think I can play in the Nations League and the Club World Cup,” said the midfielder.
Rodri was injured in the match with Arsenal (2:2) in mid-September. The Spaniard was diagnosed with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
At the start of the season, Rodri played three matches for Manchester City – two in the Premier League, and another in the Champions League. Last season, the midfielder triumphed in the Premier League with City and at Euro 2024 with the Spanish national team.
On October 28, at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Rodri won the most prestigious individual award in world football, the Ballon d’Or, for the first time in his career, ahead of three representatives of Real Madrid (winger Vinicius Junior, midfielder Jude Bellingham and defender Dani Carvajal).
Manchester City is second in the Premier League with 23 points. In the next match, the Citizens will host Tottenham on November 23.
