Coach Lasitskene explained which jumps the athlete considers standard

Russian high jump coach Maria Lasitskene Gennady Gabrilyan admitted that he considered several jumps of the athlete as the benchmark and also spoke about it.

We had several of these jumps. And everywhere there was a different technique. Experts often note, for example, that 2.06 Masha jumped in a completely different way than she does now. For us, it’s a familiar process: when the attitudes we hold onto start to break down through injuries or suspensions from foreign competitions, they stop working. And each time, you have to look for new ones. It is a very complex and responsible company. The last time we had to change them was just before the Olympics, due to damage. Fortunately, everything went well afterwards. We still use them now. At one time, when Masha was only 11 years old, I dreamed that she would jump high, just like American Shanti Howard, who later married and took the surname Lowe. Every time I looked at her and enjoyed this photo. I loved the intensity of its stroke and was very inspired by the expression it contained. I copied and filmed this momentum from all angles and put it on Masha as a purely external image. So that she runs away from me in the same way, – said Gabrielyan RT.

As noted by Gabriellyan, this very first experiment failed.

– This turned out to be unsuccessful, but gave rise to further thoughts on the fact that each athlete is individual and there is no point in fitting students into some kind of role model. Now all this causes a smile, it seems silly, but I had to go through it, – said Gabrielan.

Lasitskene, 29, is the Tokyo Olympics champion (2020), triple world champion (2015, 2017, 2019).
