The blue-and-yellows will meet Belgium in the playoffs for a place in Division A of the Nations League
Head coach Belgium national team Domenico Tedesco commented on the results of the playoff draw League of Nations. Let us remind you that the Belgians will play with Ukrainian national team for a place in Division A.
“We know their players, we know how to play against them. Moreover, I now know my strongest team – I am a much wiser coach than before the start of the Nations League. The main thing now is to hold on so we can work with the top eleven in March to stay in the Nations League A division and gain confidence in World Cup qualification. Because that will be our big goal: to get to the World Cup in 2026.”
“I’m not at all afraid of being fired. Because I know how hard we work and how much energy we put into it. Of course, the results are bad, and I understand the emotions that occur. But this is part of the national teams.”
“I am really confident that in March I will still be the coach of the national team. I have always said that we are going to use the League of Nations to experiment. And yet, in some matches we showed that we are ready to compete with the top teams.”
The Nations League playoff matches will take place on March 20 and 23. In the first match, the Ukrainian national team will be the hosts, the return match will take place on the Belgian field.
Let us remind you that on November 19, Ukraine completed the group cycle of the 2024/25 League of Nations. Thanks to the victory over Albania in the final round (as well as the Czech Republic’s victory over Georgia in a parallel match), Rebrov’s team finished in second place in group B1. Over six rounds, Ukraine scored eight points, recording two wins, two draws and two losses.
The Belgian national team took third place in Group 3 of Division A, gaining 4 points. France and Italy advanced from the quartet to the quarterfinals of the League of Nations, while the Israeli team dropped to Division B.
