A jury in Dublin returned a verdict against the famous fighter for an episode that occurred six years ago in the capital of Ireland
Former champion UFC in two weight categories Conor McGregor found guilty of rape in Dublin in December 2018.
The verdict was returned by a jury at Dublin Civil Court. The perpetrator will have to pay the victim – Miss Nikita Hand – compensation in the amount of 248,603 euros.
According to the victim, McGregor attacked her in a room at the Beacon Hotel in Dublin, forcing her to have sexual intercourse. The woman was left with extensive injuries (bruises, a scratch and a contusion).
Ms Hand calls the verdict a “triumph of justice”, while McGregor’s legal team does not agree with the decision and intends to appeal it. During the trial, the famous athlete himself told the court that he had sex with Nikita Hand by mutual consent.
Previously, the Irishman, known for his hot temper, was repeatedly accused/suspected of committing sexual violence, and also appeared in court for robbery and aggressive behavior.
McGregor fought his last fight in the Octagon in July 2021, losing to Dustin Poirier. In April of this year, it was officially announced that the 36-year-old ex-champion would return to the UFC after an almost three-year break. McGregor had scheduled a fight with former Bellator champion Michael Chandler on June 29 in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Arena as part of the UFC 303 event, but on June 13 the UFC canceled the fight, citing Conor’s injury.
In October, McGregor again announced his return to the Octagon. The Irishman intends to fight Dan Hooker on February 1 next year.
