Romanchuk won the first gold for Ukraine in swimming at the 2022 European Aquatics Championships

The Ukrainian was the best at a distance of 1500 m freestyle

Mikhail Romanchuk won gold at a distance of 1500 m freestyle on European Championship 2022 in water sports.

The Ukrainian held the first third of the distance second behind the Italian Gregorio Paltrinieri. In the future, Mikhail took the lead, and finally increased the advantage over his opponent. Romanchuk outstripped silver medalist Paltrinieri by over three seconds and bronze medalist Damien Joly of France by almost 15 seconds.

Romanchuk’s medal was the first for Ukrainian swimmers at the championship in water sports. In total, this is the eleventh award for the Ukrainian team at the tournament. Two medals were won by divers, Ukraine won eight in artistic swimming.

The European Championship takes place in Rome from 11 to 21 August. Swimming competitions will end on August 17th.
