The new president of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) Pyotr Fradkov spoke about the main areas of work as the head of the organization.
On Saturday, at the ARAF reporting and election conference, Fradkov was unanimously elected the new president of the federation for a four-year term.
— The ARAF will have to solve a wide range of issues that meet national priorities in the sports field, and the first step on this path will be the development of a comprehensive strategy for the development of athletics in the Russian Federation. We will focus on the development of children’s, youth and junior sports, grassroots and professional sports and higher level sports. It is also necessary to overcome the consequences of long periods of isolation: this includes attracting foreign athletes to our competitions, participating in championships of Russian athletes in other countries and inviting specialists from all over the world to exchange their experiences. All this is a lot of work that will help us revive relations with the International Athletics Federation in order to provide Russian track and field athletes with the opportunity to participate in world competitions.
Particular attention will be paid to the development of athletics infrastructure and equipment: it is necessary to carry out an audit of arenas, stadiums and throwing fields, and also, depending on the needs of the regions, to develop a plan for development of infrastructure to organize the training process and high-level competitions. Particular attention will be paid to the training of track and field athletes and the retention of talented coaches, which will create a sports reserve in the country. In addition, among the priority tasks is the development of positions for import substitution,” Fradkov was quoted as saying by the ARAF press service.
For two years, Fradkov has been a member of the ARAF board of directors. The Federation has been led by Petr Ivanov since November 2020.
