Pyotr Fradkov was elected the new president of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF), the organization’s press service reports.
On Saturday, the ARAF reporting and election conference took place in Moscow. Based on the results of the delegates’ vote, Fradkov was unanimously elected head of ARAF for a four-year term. Another candidate for the position was Oleg Kurbatov.
President of PJSC Promsvyazbank Fradkov was chairman of the board of directors of ARAF and was appointed to a new position in the Volgograd region. His candidacy was supported by the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Degtyarev.
Petr Ivanov was elected president of the ARAF in November 2020. In February 2021, he temporarily resigned following a decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) which banned senior Russian officials from leading sports federations until ‘in December 2022. At that time, the acting head of the ARAF was the Olympic champion in the 400 meters hurdles, Irina Privalova. Subsequently, Ivanov resumed his duties as head of the federation.
In March 2023, World Athletics reinstated its ARAF membership after seven and a half years. Despite this, the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes was extended due to the situation in Ukraine.
