Figure skater Mironov talks about moving to St. Petersburg: “I’m bored, I miss more active movements”

Figure skater Ilya Mironov performing in tandem with Yasmina Kadyrova, said that in St. Petersburg she missed the Moscow rhythm of life.

On Saturday, the fifth stage of the Russian Grand Prix began in Saint Petersburg. Kadyrova and Mironov scored 69.81 points and were in third place after the short program in the pairs competition. The first are Alexandra Boykova and Dmitry Kozlovsky (82.71), the second are Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov (81.50).

Mironov was born and played in Moscow. The skater moved to St. Petersburg in April 2024, teaming up with Kadyrova.

— Why did they replace the loop with the Salchow?

Kadyrova: We have decided that at the moment the risk is not entirely justified, because you can get more points from performing a Salchow than from performing a loop. We decided it was better to play for quality.

Mironov: Salchow is an easier jump to perform, for which you can get more points.

— How would you rate the rental?

Kadyrova: I think it’s a four.

—Why were you worried, since you’ll be in the top three anyway?

Mironov: I haven’t ridden for two years, I’m still getting used to it.

— You stayed to watch the Mishina and Gallyamov show. Have you decided to learn from the masters?

Mironov: We learn from the masters every day.

Kadyrov: This is genuine friendship and support. Of course, you can be friends on the same ice rink.

— Do you feel more confident during the second stage?

Kadyrov: Much more confident. Probably, this was also influenced by the fact that these were our native walls, the public. There has been incredible support.

Mironov: To me, these are not entirely native walls; maybe it had a slightly different influence on me. Yasmina said it was easier for her to skate here.

— They say that in Moscow there is a hectic pace of life, but in St. Petersburg everything is slow. Is this true?

Mironov: It’s not a feeling, it’s a fact. I get bored and miss more active movement. “I try to run faster in the metro, but I can’t accelerate,” reports the correspondent according to the skaters’ words.

The skaters will present their free program on Sunday.
