The Kenyan athlete, second in history to run in less than 29 minutes over 10 km on the road, banned for 6 years for EPO

The Independent Athletics Unit (AIU) has imposed a six-year ban on Kenyan Emmaculate Anyango for violating anti-doping rules.

Erythropoietin and testosterone were found during the 24-year-old athlete’s doping control. Anyango’s ineligibility period runs from September 26, 2024. Kenyan results published since February 3 have been canceled.

In January this year, Anyango and her compatriot Agnès Jebet Ngetich became the first in the history of women’s athletics to complete 10 km (road race) in less than 29 minutes. At the competition in Valencia, Ngetich showed a result of 28 minutes 46 seconds, Anyago – 28:57. During the Valencia tournament, the world record for road races, previously held by the Ethiopian Yalemzerf Yehualaw (29:14), was broken.

In March 2024, Anyango won team gold as part of the Kenyan team at the World Cross Country Championships in Serbia.
