The Mexican lightweight will not be able to enter the ring in February due to injury.

WBC lightweight title holder American Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) has yet to fight interim champion Mexican William Cepeda (32-0, 27 KOs).

The American boxer’s mandatory belt defense was scheduled for February 22 in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, but the fight will not take place due to a hand injury suffered by his Mexican opponent in a recent fight with Tevin Farmer. Their meeting in the ring was postponed indefinitely.

This was announced by Golden Boy Promotions President Eric Gomez.

“Cepeda has injured his hand, we are now considering the options of when we will reschedule this fight that William only wants,” Gomez said in a comment to ESNEWS.

Earlier, Shakur Stevenson predicted the next step in Vasily Lomachenko’s career.
