Figure skaters Mironova and Ustenko: “At the Shpilband training camp you feel a huge surge of strength and a desire to work every day”

Skaters Ekaterina Mironova And Yevgeny Ustenko They said that at the training camp with coach Igor Shpilband they felt great motivation and desire to work.

On Sunday, Mironova and Ustenko won bronze in the duet dance competition at the fifth stage of the Russian Grand Prix, scoring 201.50 points in the total of two programs. The victory was won by Elizaveta Khudayberdieva and Yegor Bazin (207.81), second by Vasilisa Kaganovskaya and Maxim Nekrasov (205.74).

Mironova and Ustenko trained for a month and a half in the USA in the Shpilband group during pre-season training. Together they worked on new programs.

Ustenko: We are happy, it was an emotional and difficult skating, it took a lot of energy. A little more thoughts on the ice. There was a small mistake on my part, but it was fine, beautiful. I think we can say that we have improved.

— What does it mean to you to be the power couple of St. Petersburg?

Mironova: Nothing. We do our job, we love it very much and we appreciate it.

— You are leaders, you skate with couples who follow you. Is it difficult in terms of progress?

Mironova: It’s hard to say. We don’t know how we would feel if there was another ruling group. We were at a training camp with Igor Shpilband, where you feel a huge surge of strength and a desire to work every day. It can be difficult to force yourself to work here, but it’s a matter of mentality and discipline. We work and achieve our goals.

Ustenko: In America it’s an easy feeling, we go on the ice – everyone has a problem, we are all human beings, not robots, everyone has a personal life behind the rink. No matter what happened at the rink, they come out and smile. It was really cool to see him live and take it on yourself.

— Does the tension in the dance increase?

Mironova: Everyone has different feelings.

Ustenko: Sometimes there is tension, sometimes not. “You have to be yourself and not force yourself,” reports the correspondent what the skaters said.
