On Sunday, Khudaiberdieva and Bazin won the duet dance competition at the fifth stage of the Russian Figure Skating Grand Prix, scoring a total of 207.81 points. Second – Vasilisa Kaganovskaya and Maxim Nekrasov (205.74), third – Ekaterina Mironova and Evgeniy Ustenko (201.50).

Bazin: We win the eighth consecutive stage. The emotions are great, we skated well in the morning, now we skated well, according to our team.

Khudaiberdieva: Let’s not lie to ourselves, it’s motivating.

Bazin: This motivation can lead to both evil and good. It’s a sport, a rivalry. Yesterday we discussed the rhythm dance performance with the team and what should be done in free dance. Charged and turned on, investing a little more.

Khudaiberdieva: We went to practice and decided that now we are going to take it easy (we are practicing) and only tense up when it is our time to skate. Let’s sleep, eat and relax. We arrived at the arena and charged in at just the right time. We have done everything correctly and know how to behave.

Three years ago, a similar situation occurred during the competition. There was no such thing as skating clean and being a champion. It doesn’t work that way. You go out, and the main thing is not to let yourself down, not to disgrace yourself in front of yourself, having given up your nerves and stability.

— What do you think before the Russian Championship? The couples are very tight, the tension is felt.

Bazin: We had control of the situation, more or less. You have to come to the Russian Championship to skate and train.

Khudaiberdieva: We follow the competition. The new couples performing for the first year, even though they have less experience than us, are cool dancers, they do cool things and it’s fun to compete with them. After the skating tests, we understood that the situation would not be like last year, where there was a big gap in each position, ”reports the correspondent according to the skaters’ words.
