Figure skater Dmitry Aliyev said he was motivated by American Ilya Malinin.

On Sunday, Aliyev won silver in the men’s competition at the fifth stage of the Russian Figure Skating Grand Prix, scoring 272.68 points in the two-program total. Vladislav Dikidzhi won (302.47), Gleb Lutfullin finished third (267.14).

— I feel good, I am incredibly happy with the manifestation of my character today. There was a cool head with whom we could communicate and negotiate. The nuances present in the jumps helped transform them into realized elements. My head is in the box office, I want to give my all to the stage and the public. Probably, these sensations will occur when the elements are performed a little more automatically than under control. We have to work.

— Do you want to watch your opponents’ performances and scores, or is all your preparation focused solely on yourself?

— All preparation is focused only on yourself and only on your own strengths, but at the same time you want to watch the guys. They set this bar for me too, thanks to them I am in this athletic shape. That year I didn’t have a Lutz for the whole season, but this season I’m using it more and more often in my skates. I try to follow the trend they set, five quads. You must fully accept the fact that you can score good points with four and three quads. For the Russian Championship, of course, we will think about improving technically and stability.

The guys are great, I follow everyone, I’m on good terms with everyone. I am Ilya Malinin. For me, it’s a kind of engine that excites me. I want to do the same thing at my age.

Today the public “sounded”, my performance was good, but it was still necessary to “sound” for there to be a tandem. I am very grateful to the audience, many have imbibed my path and respond with great respect and warmth.

When I skated internationally in 2016-2017, even though I didn’t have such support, there were also fans, I somehow moved away and didn’t not noticed. Now I felt this warmth. I know they will be there throughout the season.

I could hear the noise from the stands, but I was more focused on my technical performance. The support helped me complete the program. I tried to stick vigorously to the program until the end.

We started from four quadruples from the last stage, spots appeared here against the background of excitement, but these are already completed elements. They just need to be improved to perform better.

How will I rest? The weather is no longer suitable for fishing, tomorrow I will go to the public baths. Before renting, I only thought about public baths. I’m going to have a little fun, a movie. I want to learn how to bowl professionally. My record is about 200. I will stay in St. Petersburg to get in shape, ”the correspondent of reports Aliyev’s words.
