Australian swimmer, six-time Olympic champion Emma McKeon announced his retirement.
— I am officially retiring from my competitive career. I knew before going to Paris that these would be my last Olympics and the last few months have given me time to reflect on my journey and think about what I want my future in swimming to look like.
I am proud of myself for giving absolutely everything to my swimming career, both physically and mentally. I wanted to see what I could do and I did it.
“Now I can’t wait to see how I can push myself in other directions and whatever life throws at me,” McKeon, 30, wrote on social media.
In addition to six Olympic gold medals, McKeon has three silver and five bronze medals at the Games and five world championship victories. The Australian specializes in freestyle and butterfly swimming.
