Van Nistelrooy is a candidate for the post of head coach of Hamburg

The Redpants are considering several options after the sacking of Steffen Baumgart

Former interim mentor Manchester United Ruud van Nistelrooy is one of the candidates for the post of head coach Hamburg.

The Redpants fired their coach Steffen Baumgart on Sunday. The club is considering several options; the candidacy of the 48-year-old Dutchman has already been discussed among the leaders.

Van Nistelrooy previously played for Hamburg during his playing career. Ruud was on the list of candidates for the post of coach even before Baumgart arrived; Hamburg held negotiations with him at that time.

The Dutchman worked as an assistant to the head coach of Manchester United, and after the dismissal of Erik ten Hag, he acted as a coach. Van Nistelrooy has stated that he wants to stay in Manchester. However, the new head coach Ruben Amorim decided to radically update the coaching staff, firing Ruud, among others. Van Nistelrooy has reportedly been shortlisted for the Coventry managerial job.

Hamburg is in eighth place in the German 2nd Bundesliga. The Redpants have one win in their last six matches.
