Ponomarev: Sapuga recently had a second operation. He will now have about nine months to continue his recovery.

Captain Rukha has spent only 32 minutes on the field this season

Head coach Ruha Vitaly Ponomarev spoke about the situation around the team captain Marco Sapugiwho has been recovering from an injury since January of this year. Then, after spending only 32 minutes on the field this season, the 21-year-old midfielder again ended up in the hospital.

“Marco Sapuga recently had a second operation. The first was unsuccessful, but the second operation was successful. I talked to Marco and said that we shouldn’t give up, but need to become stronger. This is a difficult moment for him, but I am sure that he will cope with this challenge with dignity. Now he will continue to recover for about 9 months. Sapuga is the team captain, our leader, and he has a bright career ahead of him.”

Let us remind you that Sapuga received an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January, in a control match with the Austrian Sturm (0:0). Since then, the player underwent surgery in February and has undergone an eight-month rehabilitation process.

This season, Sapuga spent 32 minutes on the field in the Lviv derby against the Carpathians (0:1), which took place in October, as part of the 10th round of the UPL. Since then, the player has not appeared in Rukh’s match roster.

Last season, Marko Sapuga wore the captain’s armband in Rukh; now, during his absence, midfielder Denis Pidgursky is the captain of the Lviv team.

Yesterday Rukh minimally beat Left Bank at home (1:0) in the match of the 14th round of the UPL. In the standings, Vitaly Ponomarev’s team is in eighth position.

The Lviv club will play its next match on December 1 against Shakhtar.
