Leaders of UPL clubs are considering the possibility of introducing a semi-automatic system for detecting offsides – Vatsko

The referees also complain that VAR provides worse picture quality than in the broadcast

Club leaders UPL are considering the possibility of introducing a semi-automatic system for detecting offsides, a commentator said Victor Vatsko on the air of his own YouTube project Wacko on Air.

It is reported that among club leaders there are those who are ready to invest in this initiative, but the question is what the cost of this technology is, and what is needed in terms of technical support in the realities of today’s Ukraine, our stadiums and the Internet.

In addition, referees complain that VAR provides worse picture quality than in the broadcast. It turns out that not all VAR cars are technically equipped the same. There are those that have the best technical support, and there are those that are worse.

The semi-automatic offside detection system was first used at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Let us remind you that a scandal erupted in the Ukrainian Championship due to the actions of referees Alexander Shandor and Roman Blavatsky in the 12th round match of the UPL Alexandria – Polesie (1:0). It’s all because of the penalty against Alexandria that was not awarded, according to Polesie.

Let us remind you that in the situation under consideration, the ball hit the hand of Alexandria defender Miguel Campos in the hosts’ penalty area. The referee team turned to video replay for help, and its UAF negotiations made public November 4. Based on the transcript, Sandor did not see the ball hit the hand, and Blavatsky concluded that the ball hit the upper arm (shoulder), but noted the blurriness of the picture, after which he stated that the check was completed.

As a result, Polesie accused both judges of “criminal negligence, which radically influenced the final result of the match and, as a consequence, the course of the championship.”

Later, Veres and Obolon spoke out in support of Polesie, who also expressed their dissatisfaction with the actions of the judiciary. Krivbass, in turn, supported the demand of the UPL clubs for a meeting with the UAF arbitration consultant Nicolo Rizzoli and the chairman of the UAF refereeing corps Katerina Monzul.
