Triple Olympic medalist, six-time world champion Yulia Efimova told that she is happy to meet the qualification criteria for the 100m breaststroke, but that her trip to the World Championships in Budapest depends on the Russian Swimming Federation.
Efimova on Monday showed her second result in the 100-meter breaststroke final (1:05.28) at the Russian Short Course Swimming Championships, which takes place in St. Petersburg from November 21 to 26. Evgenia Chikunova won gold (1:04.07). Efimova’s time is the “A” standard (1:05.28) for qualifying for the World Short Course Championships, which will take place Dec. 10-15 in Budapest.
— How satisfied are you with this result?
“I haven’t understood anything yet, except that I’m very tired.” Probably, the 100m medley yesterday was not necessary. And at the end of the competition – attention, autographs. I don’t have time to pay or collect. I am the first to arrive at the pool and the last to leave. But I’m happy I swam a hundred and came second. And I’m glad I had a good time.
— This is compliance with standard “A” to the nearest hundredth. How did this happen?
– I don’t know, I didn’t even look. And I didn’t even plan to qualify for this World Championship in Budapest. I understand that I am not in good shape and that I do not have time to prepare. But if it works, I’ll be happy. I’ll be happy if they take me.
— How did you manage this distance?
“I thought it would be worse.” And that the gap will be greater. And so I fought until the very end. And she resisted.
— Isn’t it a sign of destiny that one hundredth – and there would be no standard?
– Do you see this as a sign? But going to the World Cup is not up to me. I need to be accepted into the team. At the same time, in an interview on the day before, I said that I was only counting on fifty dollars. And then I managed to qualify for the hundred. And my time was good. I’m glad I succeeded.
— Now, it all depends on the federation, will they accept it or not?
– Yes, from the federation and upon admission. I don’t really understand what the rules are now. Previously, it was possible for there to be only one neutral athlete at a distance.
– Now – two.
– If so, again, it’s not up to me. I will wait for the federation’s decision.
-Do you feel like you’re getting blurry every day?
— I swim a lot, yes. It’s the only way to get in shape. There are a number of nuances that need to be ironed out, but that’s just bullshit. The main thing is that I am vague, I passed the selection. Maybe by the end of December I’ll have fun at the Salnikov Cup!
– And Budapest?
“It doesn’t depend on me yet,” Efimova told the correspondent.
