Swimming world record holder Evgenia Chikunova told that she has not yet made the decision to compete at the World Championships in Budapest and is not yet sure whether she has reached peak fitness.
Chikunova set the fastest time (1:04.07) in the 50m breaststroke final at the Russian Short Course Swimming Championships, which take place in St. Petersburg from November 21-26. The second time goes to Yulia Efimova (1.05.28).
The Short Course World Championships will be held from December 10 to 15 in Budapest.
– I’m happy for this gold. It’s always nice to win. I’m not arguing here. And it was time – I was a little upset, because in the semifinals I managed to swim quite well (1.04.15). This to some extent gave confidence that it would be possible to swing and swim from 1.04. It didn’t work in the final, so that’s a shame. But in principle, I think that a week of swimming and such weather is not bad.
-Are you blurry?
— There seems to be a feeling that yes, and that the situation is improving. And I already feel the water well, and the stroke with my legs is going well. On the other hand, there are more distances in terms of sequences, which makes things more difficult. I feel like I’m blurry, but at the same time I understand that there is 200 m of breaststroke in front of me. And to be honest, it won’t help me much anymore.
— Is it difficult to swim 200 m the next day after a hundred?
– Well, yes, it’s difficult. At long course championships there is usually a rest day between 100 and 200m, but here there is none. It will be doubly difficult for me. On the other hand, when have we failed?
— Did your victory in the 100m breaststroke add bonuses to your decision whether or not to participate in the World Championships in Budapest?
– This has been added, of course. But the question arises: can I last until mid-December in this form? Have I even peaked? This is an incredibly controversial point. On the one hand there are advantages, confidence in the decision increases. On the other hand, questions arise regarding further preparation,” Chikunova told .
