The International Swimming Federation (World Aquatics) has extended the selection period for Russian swimmers for the December World Short Course Swimming Championships in Budapest, the vice-president of the Russian Swimming Federation said. Yevgeny Korotyshkin .
The national championship, which ended on Tuesday in St. Petersburg, became a qualifier for the Russians.
— I think no one has ever worked in such a short time – in ten days they received permission for the (qualifying status) of the competition, it is clear that many were not psychologically prepared – nor the athletes, nor the organization which gave authorization. Everyone has to work at a very fast pace.
— Is there any progress since World Aquatics on neutral statuses for athletes?
— Here there were weekends during selection days, they extended the selection period for us and opened a registration system for the World Championship. Athletes receive statuses, all quickly. We now lack an official invitation, which we will probably receive tomorrow and apply for visas. Much will still depend on the functioning of the embassy,” reports the correspondent of , reporting Korotychkin’s words.
The World Short Course Swimming Championships will take place in Budapest from December 10 to 15.
