Swimming world record holder Evgenia Chikunova told that she still can’t believe Russian swimmers were allowed to compete at the World Championships in Hungary.
Earlier, Vice President of the Russian Swimming Federation Evgeny Korotyshkin told that Chikunova is on the list of Russian athletes who intend to participate in the December World Championships in Budapest.
— You won the 200m breaststroke, but will it be possible to improve on this time between now and December 10, when the Short Course World Championships begin in Budapest?
– There’s still time to get blurry. And we will make full use of this time. We will try to do everything we can. In this case, time is not on our side, but we make the most of it.
— Is returning to the international level a major event in your career?
– It was very unexpected. And I still can’t believe it’s all happening so suddenly. And that’s really the reality,” Chikunova told .
Chikunova set the fastest time (2:17.89) in the 200m breaststroke final at the Russian Short Course Swimming Championships, which took place in St. Petersburg from November 21-26. The second time goes to Yulia Efimova (2.22.13). Both athletes met the “A” qualifying standard.
