Hearn: Shakur’s plan is to have a unification fight with Berinchyk

Other contenders for the fight with Stevenson are Scofield and Cordina

WBC belt holder’s promoter Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) Eddie Hearn after the breakdown of the fight with the “interim” WBC lightweight champion William Cepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) announced the plans of his ward.

“Our main plan is to fight Berinchyk to unify the titles. Although obviously Top Rank will also have some questions.”

“There is Scofield – a great young talent. This would be great to promote. We also remembered Cordina. I think that if not Berinchik, then one of these two.”

The Mexican injured his hand in a fight with Tevin Farmer in a fight on November 16. Cepeda defeated the American in this fight by split decision and became the mandatory challenger for the WBC lightweight title.

Stevenson defended the belt in July, defeating Artem Harutyunyan by decision. Shakur was preparing for a fight against former IBF super featherweight world champion Joe Cordina, but was injured and underwent surgery. The fight against Cepeda was scheduled for February 22, 2025.

It was previously reported that Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KOs) will next fight with former IBF world super featherweight champion Joe Cordina. The Ukrainian began preparing for the fight in Spain in October.

Raymond Muratalia (22-0, 17 KOs) and Keyshawn Davis (11-0, 7 KOs) were also named as potential opponents of the Ukrainian. Muratalya himself stated his desire to fight Berinchik. The American also included WBC champion Shakur Stevenson on his personal shortlist.

Let us remind you that in May Berinchik defeated the Mexican Emmanuel Navarrete by a split decision. The Ukrainian won the long-awaited WBO world lightweight title.
