The German coach, who is dissatisfied with the locker room, may not make it to the spring matches with the Ukrainian national team
There will be a meeting of the board of directors in the coming days Royal Belgian Football Associationat which the issue of the future will be considered Domenico Tedesco as men’s head coach Belgium national team.
It is expected that at the next meeting the leadership of Belgian football will make a final decision regarding the 39-year-old coach, whose team has recently shown unsatisfactory results and against whom (according to rumors) the locker room is completely opposed.
Following this, there will be another meeting at which the new sporting director of the Belgian FA, Vincent Mannert (who will officially take office on December 1), will present new sporting strategies.
Tedesco, a German of Italian descent, began coaching early. Already at 31, in the summer of 2017, he received a representative of the Schalke elite, where he managed to work with the Ukrainian Evgeniy Konoplyanka. Then Domenico was brought to Spartak Moscow, and from December 2021 to September 2022 he headed Leipzig. His career in Belarus was cut short by a home defeat from Shakhtar (1:4) in the Champions League. The young specialist has been with the Belgian national team since February 2023.
Under Tedesco, the Red Devils easily qualified for Euro 2024, where they played mediocrely—elimination in the 1/8 finals, three out of four matches without scoring goals (including against Ukraine—0:0). In the fall, Belgium performed poorly in the Nations League – only four points in six matches in Group A2. France and Italy advanced from that quartet to the quarterfinals of the League of Nations, while the Israeli team dropped to Division B.
Let us remind you that it was Belgium who was chosen by lot to be the rivals of the Ukrainian national team for the right to move up in class. The 2024/25 Nations League playoff matches will take place on March 20 and 23. In the first match, the Ukrainian national team will be the hosts, the return match will take place on the Belgian field.
