Olympic cross-country skiing champion Veronika Stepanova in a column on “” asked a rhetorical question.

If European countries continue to buy and consume Russian gas, oil, grain, fertilizers, metals, etc., why is there a ban on entertainment involving Russian athletes? There is such a popular expression in English: hypocrisy much? (Isn’t there too much hypocrisy?), – wrote Stepanova.

At the end of February, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that international sports federations prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. Many federations have subscribed to this recommendation.
