Ukrainian Andrey Lunin included in the list of seven contenders for the title best goalkeeper in the world 2024 according to version FIFA.
World football’s governing body has released the list of nominees for awards at the upcoming ceremony. The Best FIFA Football Awards.
In addition to Lunin, the contenders for the title of best goalkeeper are: Italian Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG), Brazilian Ederson (Manchester City), French Mike Maignan (Milan), Argentinean Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa), as well as the Spaniards David Raya (Arsenal) and Unai Simon (Athletic). In addition, the Ukrainian goalkeeper of Real Madrid is one of 11 candidates for inclusion in the symbolic team of 2024 according to FIFA. The voting includes nominees in four roles. The list of 22 forwards includes another Ukrainian – Artem Dovbik.
Let us remember that at the end of October, 25-year-old Lunin, who spent an excellent 2023/24 season as part of the Madrid giants, took third place in the voting for the Yashin Trophy – a prize for the best goalkeeper of 2024 as part of the Golden Ball award. The Ukrainian lost in the voting to Martinez (the winner) and Simon, but was ahead of Donnarumma, Maignan and five other contenders.
In the main category of The Best FIFA Football Awards – the best footballer of the year – 11 players are presented. In addition to the aforementioned Vinicius, Haaland and Mbappe, the list includes three more Real Madrid representatives Dani Carvajal, Federico Valverde and Jude Bellingham, their retired former teammate Toni Kroos, top Bundesliga prospect Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, phenom Lamin Yamal from Barcelona, as well as the winner ZM-2024 Rodri (Manchester City).
Voting takes place on FIFA website and will end on January 10, 2025. In the same month, laureates in various male and female categories will be announced.
