Two Ukrainians are also represented in various categories of The Best FIFA Football Awards – Lunin and Dovbik
FIFA published a list of 11 candidates for the title best football player of 2024 as part of the award The Best FIFA Football Awards.
The nominees include: Toni Kroos (retired from career) Jude Bellingham, Dani Carvajal, Kylian Mbappe, Federico Valverde And Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid), Erling Holland And Rhodri (Manchester City) Lionel Messi (Inter Miami) Florian Wirtz (Bayer) and Lamin Yamal (Barcelona).
Voting takes place on FIFA website and will end on January 10, 2025. In the same month, laureates in various male and female categories will be announced.
The candidates for the best coach award are Xabi Alonso, Carlo Ancelotti, Luis de la Fuente, Pep Guardiola and Lionel Scaloni. There are seven nominees for the best goalkeeper of the year award, including Ukrainian Andrei Lunin. The Real Madrid goalkeeper is also on the list of candidates for the 2024 World Team. The list of 22 forwards includes another of our compatriots, Artem Dovbik.
Let us remind you that Manchester City midfielder Rodri became the main triumphant of the 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony, held on October 28 at the Chatelet Theater in Paris. The Spaniard was only 41 points ahead of Vinicius in the voting.
Spain’s Aitana Bonmati won the Women’s Ballon d’Or for the second year in a row. Lamin Yamal took the prize for the best young player, Harry Kane and Mbappe shared the trophy for the best scorer, Emiliano Martinez became the best goalkeeper of the year (Lunin – third), Real Madrid was recognized as the best men’s club, and his mentor Carlo Ancelotti – the best coach.
