A year ago at this tournament Olga became a silver medalist
Two-time Olympic champion in fencing Olga Kharlan announced her performance at the stage Grand Prix 2024/25 seasonwhich will take place in early December in French Orleans.
“Don’t be afraid to return to what sets your heart on fire! See you at the GRAND PRIX NUOMA, Orleans, December 5-7,” the athlete wrote on her Instagram page.
This tournament will be the first for the famous fencer after the Paris Olympics. A year ago, Olga won a silver medal in Orleans.
Let us remind you that this summer Harlan won gold at the 2024 Olympics in Paris in the women’s team saber tournament. Olga defeated her opponent in the decisive bout with a score of 8:2. Harlan set a new Ukrainian record for the number of medals at the Olympic Games (6), and at the same time broke the record for the longest interval between two Olympic gold medals in fencing (16 years).
Previously, the Ukrainian became the champion in the team saber at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, and also won silver in the team competition at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. In individual saber, Olga won the Olympic bronze medal three times – in London 2012, Rio 2016 and Paris 2024.
Harlan is also active in social and community activities. In October, she announced her desire to found her own fencing academy in Kyiv.
Olga recently donated the saber with which she won Olympic gold in Paris for a charity auction, which was organized jointly with the Sergei Pritula Foundation. This lot was purchased by the Metalist 1925 football club for a contribution of 10 million hryvnia. In addition, a Ukrainian flag with Harlan’s autograph was raffled off at the auction, as well as a special lot – the opportunity to have coffee with the Olympic champion.
The total amount of donations amounted to 11,679,254 hryvnia. The 16 ShaBlya automated turrets purchased with this money were sent to the military from the 5th separate assault brigade, the 25th separate airborne brigade and the 57th separate motorized infantry brigade.
