“It will slow progress.” Leonova considers ISU decision to raise figure skating age limit ambiguous

Silver medalist at the World Figure Skating Championships Alena Leonova expressed his opinion on raising the age limit in figure skating.

Previously, the ISU Congress had approved a gradual increase in the age limit for figure skaters to compete in adult competitions. In the 2023/24 season, skaters over the age of 16 will be able to participate, from the 2024/25 season – over the age of 17.

– Raising the age limit will really slow down progress, but on the other hand, I’m still for women’s individual skating, and the new age limit concerns above all this guy. Of course, you can see when a junior skates and when a grown woman skates, who has already experienced everything possible. In this situation, the main thing is that the girls, who will later become adults, simply live up to this level. But I think their coaches will do everything possible for this, – quotes the words of Leonova “Championship”.
