Boris Chizhov’s team suffered its second defeat in the tournament
Ukrainian women’s handball team played the match of the second round of the group stage Euro 2024having been defeated by Iceland (24:27).
In a key match in the context of the fight for reaching the playoffs, Boris Chizhov’s team played the first half extremely poorly. She went into the break with a seven-goal deficit (9:16), which seemed a very difficult task to win back.
The Ukrainian team played the second half much better than the first. Its gap from Iceland was reduced to three goals, but the opponent did not allow them to get closer until the end of the game.
Let us remind you that in the opening round Ukraine lost to Germany (17:30). Considering that the two best teams will leave the group (the Netherlands became one of them ahead of schedule), and in the last round Germany and Iceland will meet each other (with two points each), then after the second round Ukraine lost its chances of reaching the playoffs -off.
Boris Chizhov’s team will play the final match of the tournament on December 3 against the Netherlands.
