Lupashko: We must close such matches

The Lviv team won after the first half in the match with Zorya, but conceded twice in the second

Head coach Karpat Vladislav Lupashko disappointed by the defeat Zari (1:2) in the 15th round match Ukrainian Premier League.

“The score really doesn’t match the game. I think we dominated many phases of the game with and without the ball in this match. In terms of the number of touches in the penalty area, shots, creation of scoring chances… It’s very good that we can play from a position of strength against a team like Zarya. But we have to close such matches. With a greater score than 1:0 and 2:0.”

“We have opportunities and very high-quality chances from positional attacks. This suggests that there is understanding between the players, quality, but we have problems with the quality of the final phase of the attack. The number of moments we have needs to be turned into quality. Then everything will be much better on our part.”

“We see that not only Igor Neves does not score, but also Ustimenko. We only have two strikers, there is no third alternative. In principle, Igor plays well in moments, but he is simply unlucky in finishing attacks and lacks the final blow. I’m a big believer in trusting players. If he is on your team, works loyally and can meet our requirements, then we should trust him, just like other players.”

“The team is trying to play first both at home and away. Also, we should not forget that Karpaty is a team that recently played in the First League. We want the most people to watch our game and enjoy it. This is one of our global ideas. We want to move towards quality through this direction and take the next step.”

“Now our task is to make sure that our and neutral fans have fun. No matter how you win the match, your fans will always be happy. And the neutral one will say directly that he was not interested: I didn’t want to watch, I’m sitting on the phone at the same time… That’s what we don’t want. We want people to leave their child, phone, and woman when Carpathians play and watch football. I want our fans to change in the understanding that everything is measured only by the result. Sometimes he will be like today, and he is very annoying. Because we did a lot today to win, but we have to accept it.”

Karpaty opened the scoring in the first half, Pavel Polegenko converted a penalty. The Lviv team gave up the initiative after the break and conceded two goals from Petar Michin.

Lupashko’s team ranks sixth in the UPL with 21 points. In the next match, Karpaty will host Veres on December 7.
