Viner spoke about possible work with Polstyana, who refused to play for Latvia

Head of the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation (VFCG) and head coach of the national team Russia Irina Vigner said that she would think about the possibility of taking gymnast Elizaveta Polstyanaya to her if she turned to her.

Earlier, 19-year-old Polstyanaya said she was not allowed to participate in the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Bulgaria. The athlete was born in Latvia, but grew up in Russia. She obtained Latvian citizenship in 2018 and has since represented the country in international competitions. On , Polstyanaya said she had been given an ultimatum: to renounce Russian citizenship in exchange for participating in the World Cup. Later, Polstyanoy was allowed to continue playing for Latvia at his own expense. The athlete herself quickly announced her decision not to play for this country anymore.

“If Poltyanaya turns to me, then I will think about whether to take him with us or not. At the moment nobody has contacted me,” Wiener told Sport24.

Earlier it was reported that Latvian athletes who also have citizenship of the Russian Federation or Belarus do not have the right to receive state financial assistance, but are not deprived of the right to compete for Latvia in international competitions.

The world championship will take place from September 14 to 18 in Sofia.
