Minakov is in Russia and preparing to perform at the Spartakiad, despite the recent coronavirus

swimming world championships Andrei Minakov is already in Russia and is preparing to perform at the Spartakiad of the strongest, the athlete himself confirmed to the press service of the All-Russian Swimming Federation.

Minakov competed in the 100 meter freestyle and butterfly tournament. The Spartakiad of the Strongest swimming tournament kicks off in St. Petersburg on August 21.

– Before departure, hundreds worked on the second fifty dollars. It is very important to have another strong half after a quick start. An intensive block of work was also done which meant peak form at the US Open in July and Spartakiad, but unfortunately I caught COVID on the first start – couldn’t show any results decent, so I can’t wait for Spartakiad!

First of all, I want to enjoy the competitions, because they take place at my home town. I’m sure the Nevskaya Volna pool stands will be overcrowded. It’s not every day that competitions of this level take place in St. Petersburg,” Minakov said.

Minakov is studying at Stanford, he flew from the United States to the Spartakiad of the strongest, he missed the start of the Friendship Games in Kazan.
