Double Olympic medalist Kliment Kolesnikov believes that the Romanian swimmer David Popovitch – a genetically gifted athlete, but who achieved a world record thanks to the hard work.
The European Championship swimming tournament ended the day before in Rome. The main event was David Popovich’s (Romania) 100m freestyle world record. The previous record was 13 years.
“Genetics and labor,” Kolesnikov told , commenting on Popovich’s achievement.
– How do the juniors (Popovich – 17 years old) live with this world record at their age?
– What’s with the disc? At 17, I was not asked such questions when setting a record for 100 and then 50 meters. Everyone kind of lived, trained more and swam on a level playing field, there was always competition and there were always people who stood out for their results, the always have been and will be. In sport, without it, nowhere.
In the final of the European Championship, Popovich showed the result of 46.86 seconds. The previous world record was held by Brazilian Cesar Cielo Filho, who in 2009 covered the distance in 46.91 seconds.
