BMX World Cup winner in Katyshev: “There were ambitions for the international season, we had to change priorities”

BMX Flying World Cup stage winner Alexander Katyshev admitted in a interview that with no international starts he had to change priorities.

Katyshev won the group race at the Russian Championship for the first time in his career. His wife Natalya Suvorova won the women’s race.

– Is this really your first title of Russian champion? I just think it should have happened a long time ago.

– Yes! He took second place five times, Katyshev told .

Does the title come as a wedding bonus?

– We have been together for a long time, so this is hardly the case (laughing).

– Irek Rizaev went to the runway on the wedding day. And you?

We had everything in the fall. Rain, snow, so already at that time they did not run and did not perform.

— Does raising the starting mountain at the Maryino velodrome change the quality of the race?

– Without a doubt. Now we have a five meter mountain, we also compete internationally at eight meters. Previously, the starting mountain was two meters. But the current starting mountain corresponds to international standards, it happens to be even higher.

– Last season you made a breakthrough in the results – the first success on the World Cup podium, then – the absence of an international season.

– There was no euphoria on this podium, but there were more ambitions. There was good preparation for the off-season and I was attentive to departures abroad… I had to change priorities, objectives, tasks and prepare for other departures.

– And where to put these ambitions now?

– I set myself the goal of becoming the champion of Russia and I achieved it. Now there will be a Spartakiad of the strongest.

– There will be prizes!

– Many thanks to the federation for organizing such events to support the athletes, and we will see what happens next week.
