Pyatiborka Maria Samoilova appreciated her performance at the All-Russian Spartakiad of Summer Sports among the strongest athletes, noting that she was happy to win such a status competition.
Samoilova won Spartakiad gold on Tuesday, second was Daria Lopatkina, third was Sofia Kozlova. 2017 World Champion Gulnaz Gubaidullina took fifth place.
– Today I became the strongest athlete, I went there for a very long time. This is my first victory and such a big one – on such a start I am very happy. It’s absolutely comfortable for me to race in the heat, but in the semis it was more difficult because of the strong wind. When you run, you don’t really feel the heat.
I had to “break” when it was necessary to run uphill – I ran hard, through myself, for the good of the team. This departure went very well for me, there was a gap, I was able to keep it. In each ordeal I showed one of the best results among all I ended the affair.
I want to share the victory with the coaches, thank the sports doctors and the parents, ”said Samoilova in an interview published on the YouTube channel of the Modern Pentathlon Federation of Russia.
