Chikunova: “I wouldn’t say that I really miss international competitions”

swimmer Evgenia Chikunova noted competing at domestic competitions, adding that he doesn’t miss international competitions that much.

Russians, by decision of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), are suspended from participation in tournaments under the auspices of this organization until the end of 2022 due to the situation with Ukraine. Now Chikunova and other Russian swimmers are participating in the All-Russian Spartakiad of Summer Sports among the strongest athletes in 2022.

– We have competition in Russia, there are fast seconds. Maybe we don’t always go to times like in international competitions, but we always have rivalry. I wouldn’t say that swimming in Russia is somehow bad, and I miss international competitions very much. Of course, I want to travel, swim with foreign rivals. But for now, that’s the situation.

At the end of August, it is difficult to swim, both physically and emotionally. But I want to get closer to the time of around 2:22. Of course, there is a desire to exceed the time displayed at the European Championships. I did not watch the broadcasts of the European Championship, only the results. It’s still difficult for me to reach the world level in the 100 breaststroke, but in the 200 meters I always watch how my opponents are prepared. So the tournament did not escape me,” Chikunova told the “Championship”.
