Rylov said he ‘played the fool’ for a long time after the Olympics

Double Olympic champion Yevgeny Rylov said he allowed himself to reduce the intensity of training after the Tokyo Olympics and now has to work a lot on himself.

On Wednesday, Rylov won gold in the 200m backstroke at the 2022 All-Russian Summer Spartakiad among the strongest athletes with a score of 1:55.90.

– There was a false start in the hundred meters. Why did this happen and why was it challenged?

I shivered. They just said there was an opportunity to try to challenge – why not. They kept going for a very long time, so it’s out of habit. At 200 meters, I voluntarily got up later, knowing it. Otherwise, there would be the same problems. Honestly, with the change of starter, I have a little problem. A habit after international departures is a second and a half and you are already flying. Therefore, here I have somewhere inattentive, more new people. I was able to adapt, but at that time it didn’t work out.

Do you follow the results of international competitions?

– Unless I look at the results, but there are enough of my own problems.

– How has the situation with the FINA suspension affected the preparation and the emotional state?

– Not so much, but it did. Suddenly, it would be forbidden to train at all, it would generally be sad. It was unpleasant before the Russian Championship, when it was not clear whether I would participate or not – leave or train. And so I just need to work on myself, because, I repeat, I played crazy for a very long time,” Rylov said.
