The silver medalist of the All-Russian Spartakiad of the strongest in the pole vault Polina Knoroz in an interview with spoke about the beginning of her career in athletics and admitted that she would immediately start training if Russian athletes were returning to international departures.
At the Spartakiad held in Chelyabinsk, Knoroz became second in the pole vault with a score of 4.65 m. Anzhelika Sidorova won, beating the bar at around 4.70m. Third place was taken by Elizaveta Bondarenko with a score of 4.45m.
– Pole vaulting in Russia has a rich tradition. When you decided to get into this sport, were you inspired by the careers of Svetlana Feofanova and Elena Isinbayeva?
– Not. When I came to athletics, I didn’t know anyone at all,” Knoroz told . – My parents are famous athletes themselves in the past (mother Anna is a world champion in the 4 × 400 m relay). Therefore, my fate was sealed even before I was born. Initially, I was sent to the all-around so I could do whatever I could for general development. Shest was not included in this program. And then in St. Petersburg I saw the guys pole vaulting, and I liked it. I went to my first trainer and asked, “Can I try?” I’m 12, I’m short, skinny, I say, “What is that? Leave me!” The coach is like, “Well, wait, try it.” After a while, I finally joined his group.
So full of adrenaline?
– In any sport, there is adrenaline. I don’t think high altitude climbers calmly enter the area and jump or sprinters calmly run. I must be captivated by the feeling of flying. I believe pole vaulting is elite athletics, the best sport there is. And I’m proud to be a pole vaulter. Not everyone can do it. Anyone can run, yes, slowly, yes, not much, but they can. And who will jump with a pole?
– Let’s imagine the situation: tomorrow the restrictions for Russian athletes are lifted. Your actions?
“In that case, I will start preparing for the winter season tomorrow.”
