‘There are empty stands in Russia, but people don’t care about athletics’ – Polina Knoroz suspended from international departures

The silver medalist of the All-Russian Spartakiad of the strongest in the pole vault, Polina Knoroz, in an interview with , expressed her feelings about the withdrawal of Russian athletes from international competitions.

At the Spartakiad of the strongest held in Chelyabinsk, Knoroz became second in the pole vault with a score of 4.65 m. Anzhelika Sidorova won, breaking the bar at around 4.70m. Third place was taken by Elizaveta Bondarenko with a score of 4.45m. .

– Our athletes are under pressure from the situation with the suspension of international competitions. How do you see this situation?

– True, it is very urgent, – said Knoroz “”. – Literally last year I received my first neutral status, I just tasted the taste of foreign competitions, and again all this was taken away from me. Now you are performing in Russia, where the stands are empty and people don’t care about athletics, while abroad they just love it. And you think, “Why am I training? Who am I doing this for? You can’t take part in the World Championships, you can’t take part in the Olympics either … Well, you will be the champion of Russia, and what will that bring you?

– And what to do?

– The only thing that motivates me is the love of pole vaulting. It is not just a hobby or a job, but the meaning of life. Besides, I console myself with the fact that I am only 23 years old. In women, the potential of the pole vault is revealed at the age of 30. In theory, I still have seven years ahead of me. I hope they don’t keep us locked up all this time.
