Winner of the decathlon competition at the Spartakiad athletics tournament Ilya Chkurenev admitted that he enjoyed the attention of the child fans the most and also talked about how he battled the heat during the competition.
According to the results of ten disciplines, Shkurenev scored 8354 points, the second was Artem Makarenko (7994), the third – Alexander Komarov (7958).
– After the Russian Championship, you weren’t very attentive to the Spartakiad. They said that, they say, you’re going to leave, start, and then we’ll see. However, the results have improved.
Like I said, I started. Looked further. But just the first pancake is always lumpy. Not that I did anything like that. I arrived, my legs only allowed me to do one running job… I didn’t really jump. A few times we went to score, and that was it. We need a week to catch our breath after such loads.
– As in Cheboksary, so in Chelyabinsk, the heat was back. How are you?
– In general, you can push everything in the heat. But in Volgograd, I’ll tell you, if you don’t know, the temperature has been below 40 for two or three weeks. That is 38, 36 in the afternoon. We are warmer. We can just hide somewhere in the shade. And here they hung transparent ones … Somehow you will not go in the shade. So it’s just hard. But it’s not exactly hot-hot. I was hiding behind the high dashboard, somewhere else. How could. Because if you need to go out and do two guys, then you’ll rest. And the next day, evening training. Another thing is that you still have so much to do today.
– All-rounders are not so spoiled here, as many events take place in the morning, when there are no spectators. Have you experienced support?
– Cool. It’s always nice when someone is watching. Someone is sick. Someone likes it. People come with children. With children, it’s generally good that they are interested in the little ones, and in the future grown-ups. It’s always cool. When they arrive and talk, I am overwhelmed with pride! – said Shkurenev, quoted by the press service of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (VFLA).
