“The Spartakiad is of great interest, the strongest athletes compete” – Matytsin

The All-Russian Spartakiad in summer sports among the strongest athletes in 2022 is of great interest, the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation told Oleg Matytsin.

Competitions in 39 sports are held in 12 cities across Russia from August 10 to October 2.

— More than 30 years have passed since the previous Spartakiad in our country. A very important decision was made to hold it from a sport development perspective, an analysis of where we are still lacking, what our strengths are.

The Spartakiad will be held in winter and summer sports every four years next year after the Olympics to assess prospects and see the level of sports development in the regions. The course of the Spartakiad itself is of great interest, the strongest athletes compete and the youngsters are hot on their heels.

The Winter Spartakiad will most likely be postponed to 2024. Now we are discussing this with the federations. But the next cycle will definitely be next year after the Olympics, Matytsin told .

– The event is massive. How do you manage to cope with the organization, to connect all the cogs of the country into a single mechanism?

– We have a lot of experience in organizing complex competitions in Russia. The Spartakiad and Universiade movements are actively developing. Professional teams are formed in the federal and regional sports departments, and they interact quite well.
