Bronze medalist at the World High Jump Championships Ilya Ivanyuk in a conversation with journalists, he admitted that he was not upset by the absence of Russian athletes at international competitions.
On Sunday, Ivanyuk took fourth place in the All-Russian Strongest Spartakiad with a score of 2.23m, Danil Lysenko won (2.28), Yaroslav Kutkovoy was second (2.26) and Nikita Anishchenkov was third (2.23).
“International competitions will come one day,” Ivanyuk said. – Thanks to the return of Dani Lysenko, I am not upset about this anymore. In any case, I will have a great rivalry. I hope the youth will grow in the results. Perhaps the problem will be solved and soon the Belarusians will be able to come to us, and we to them. I have hope for that.
– But there is still no prize money like in Europe.
– I beg you. Life is tough for everyone right now. Well, there will be a little less prize money, that’s okay. Let’s remember our childhood – we don’t work here for candy wrappers, but for an idea. In fact, I want to be an example for young people. So that they look at us and say, “Look, what cool guys, we want to be like them.” This is what we must strive for. So that our children don’t walk around outside doors and do dirty things, but play sports. It seems to be slowly starting to work.
